Burkley has been teething like crazy this past week.
It started a week ago Sunday.
He woke up and I thought he was sick, but then I realized by how much he was chewing on his fingers and drooling, that it was teeth.
Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, he was a mess of drippy snot, drool, red, chapped cheeks, sneezing, coughing, and a hoarse voice. Oh, and he wasn't eating and hardly sleeping.
Ha! I thought I had to worry about him weaning early!
No-sir-ee, he nursed every 1-2 hours like a newborn baby. Even his dipes were back to newborn style. I had forgotten what to do with these types of dipes because he pretty much exclusively poops in the toilet these days.
Then, Wednesday, he was better. Though by this time his nursing blister was so swollen, every time he'd bang his mouth on something, he'd cry out in pain. Come to find out, he had gotten a cold sore underneath it on his gumline. Poor kid, I hope he doesn't have his dad's tendency to get a cold sore every time he so much as looks at his mouth the wrong way.
Then, Thursday, he was worse again.
And then, steadily improving since.
Do your kids grind their teeth?
Burkley's been grinding his teeth when he's teething for awhile now.
It sounds AWFUL and besides the occasional drippy nose, it's how I know he's still teething.
That, and even in his sleep, I see him gnawing on his fingers and stretching out his sore jaw.
Thankfully, though, he's maintained his chipper spirit throughout the whole thing, which is what I'm using as my basis to decide that he's not sick, just teething.
And I've had several people suggest to me that it's his molars.
I knew about 2-year molars, but I hadn't known about 1-year molars!
Judging by his swollen gums, they're all four working their way up to the surface. :(
However, I do want to take a moment to advertise one of my new favorite teething products: Camilia. I found it at Walgreens and Burkley loves it. I like that it is natural and that it works. Check it out!

I'd forgotten about the teeth grinding, but YES. Moira did when she was teething and the sound drove me crazy.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, grinding of the teeth is a horrible sound. I think Mason finally forgot he can do it. Poor Burkley seems to be having the roughest time with all his teeth.
ReplyDeleteI have one thing to say "Teething Sucks!" My heart goes out to both of you.
