13 Month Recap

Holy smokes, Burkley is 13 months old.
I'm still adjusting to having a one year old.
Every day is so much fun and he makes us laugh all the time.

He is getting better and better at communicating and his favorite sign is "more," which he does often.
He also says, "Mmmmm!" when he sees us eating anything, or even if he just sees food on the table.
He signs "all done" after meals and tries to say, "Amen" after prayers.
He also recently started doing the sign for "milk" which we use when I say "milkies," referring to nursing.
In fact, the other day, he woke up, and while I was still a little sleepy, I saw through my squinted tired eyes that he rolled over, sat up, pulled the covers off of me and did the sign for "milk." Hilarious. I guess he was hungry.
He says, "Noooo," and will reach out to touch our noses.
He will say, "No!" when he knows he's doing something he shouldn't (like trying to knock over a lamp).
If you ask him where Kedzie is, he'll look right at her. Same with Mama and Dada.
Every time he hears a beat or music, he immediately starts dancing.
He claps anytime he sees or hears anyone clapping, especially at every turn of the wheel on Wheel of Fortune.
He loves to play "peek-a-boo" and pretend to hit himself in the head with his drumsticks.
His favorite toys are his music table and instruments.
He waves bye-bye and when he sees a little baby, his voice goes up really high as says, "Aaaiii!"
When I leave the room, he whines and cries, it's quite pitiful, but really sweet.
He pulls our hair and says, "Ow!" Yeah, I know, real nice.
He does the animal sounds for snake, lion, elephant, and his favorite, which he sometimes does without even being asked: monkey.
He's learned "feet first": when he tries to get off the bed or couch by crawling off, we say, "Feet first!" and he turns around and backs down with his, well, feet first. Such a smart kid. Just the other day I was vacuuming and I popped my head around the corner to check on him and saw that he was going feet-first down the stairs on his own, without being told or reminded!
He leans his forehead into our mouths when he wants to be kissed. Sometimes he bangs his head into our faces, which can be quite painful!
He pretends to read books, well, to him maybe he IS reading books, by pointing at the pages and babbling.
He goes #1 and #2 in the toilet pretty consistently. We use about 2 diapers a day.
He is STILL teething miserably and has been for weeks now. Some days are better than others, but he's still not back to normal.

He's not quite walking independently, but he's pretty darn close!!
(And yes, I admit, this is a bad example of letting your children do things when they're ready, I was pushing him a bit and it was bedtime and he was cranky.)

...and this is what he does if you give him a Kleenex with which to play

He loves to play with my mini-flashlight, which I use as a reading light in bed. One night, he threw it behind the bed. Daddy retrieved it using an old curtain rod, and Burkley "helped" by supervising...without clothes.

Oh, and he LOVES to chew on the radiator. We're pretty sure that's lead paint, so...yeah...we're working on breaking the habit. Sometimes hubby puts the baby gate over it, which is pretty ingenious.

He continues to be such a source of joy in our lives and I can't wait for all that's to come!

  1. I'm impressed with how much Burkley can say! And animal sounds, how cute that must be! I hope Burkley and Mason get to meet someday, I think they would have a lot of fun together :)
