Burkley is growing into a funny little person more and more each day.
Every day brings new tricks and silliness that just gets us laughing like nothing else.
In the past few days, he has learned lots of new things.

He's started to sign "more" to us-- in his own little way-- which is just too cute.
He's started saying "yeah" and "no" to questions we ask him. Sometimes his answer makes sense, other times, not so much.
He's started to give hugs and snuggles.
He is walking behind push-toys and pushing around other things that are not toys.
He is doing "So big!" "Cheeeeese!" (which is more like "eeeaah!" with a silly smile), clapping when we say "Yay!" and on occasion, if you say, "Burkley can you say 'one'?" He'll hold up one finger.
If he hears a beat or music anywhere he starts bobbing his head and bouncing his knees (if he's standing). He does this also if you so much as hint at dancing, like saying something like, "Can you dance?"
He is crawling and climbing on and over everything. He is fast!
He loves to be chased-- especially up the stairs, but even when he's crawling. He gets giggling and tries to go really fast, which makes him actually slow down and it's hilarious.
He likes to "try" to stand up and intentionally fall into my arms- laughing the whole time.
He has taken to pointing at the pictures as if he's pretending to read when looking at a book.
He giggles like a silly goofball when the vacuum is running. He could also sit there for what seems like hours examining the tubes and cord (when it's not running).
He does the thing where he uses his finger to pull at his lip and make funny sounds.
He also uses the back of his hand to make the "bah-bah-bah" sound with his mouth.
He loves giving hi-fives (and low-fives).
He is actually responding to our saying "no" by ceasing whatever it is we're asking him to stop. (I know this could be short lived.)
Also, a few days ago, he just quit using his paci. At this point he was only using it the first few minutes before going to bed when he'd finish nursing and just need a little bit more snuggling. Now, he just stops nursing and wants some snuggles. I tried offering him his paci and he would either grit his mouth shut (with his eyes closes, half-asleep) indicating he didn't want it, or he'd grab it and toss it a few feet away (still in his sleep). He's done this every day for every nap and bedtime that I've tried offering it to him for the past four days. Hooray! I think we're really done with the paci!! That was easy!
While I don't know what the next year is going to bring, I am so excited for it. But, before his first birthday next week, I'm going to relish these days of my little "baby" and all of the joy he brings to our lives!

| Practicing saying "one" for his birthday next week! As you can tell by his mouth, he is actually saying "No!"- but he still puts up the one finger, which is pretty funny. :) |

It really does just keep getting better! Honestly!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter is 7 1/2 yrs and this is age is just as magical and exciting as every age and stage she has passed through. There is just nothing more amazing than parenting a child who is truly free to be authentic all the time.
And just as an aside...
I get annoying comments all the time like "Oh, with 3 daughters--just wait til they're teenagers!" I always say, "I can hardly wait to see who they'll be as teenagers!" And I really mean it. I mean, they are already amazing and interesting people. Why would that change?
It's so great to read about how happy you are as a mother and how much you enjoy your boy.
