Life after the first birthday generally takes an awesome turn in the life of a toddler and his family. I remember with Burkley when my friends would tell me how great months 12-24 were and when we got there, I quickly found out they were right.
It's all coming back to me now with Cadriel. He is just about 15 months and every day is a new adventure of him learning and growing and communicating.
Being One
Being one means trying to run
When you've only just learned to walk
Saying "haaa!" at the stove when you know it is hot
And trying out all sorts of new sounds and words.
"Ba!" at anything resembling a ball, even if it's a toy egg
And waving and yelling, "Ya ya!" when you want to say "Good-bye."
Being one means willingly laying on the floor
So brother can sit on you
Or wrestle you
And you giggle hysterically.
It means grabbing everyone's shoes
And handing them out, amazing Mama that you know which pair goes to whom.
Being one means signing "please" when you see a drink
Or anything edible
Or anything that you think should be edible.
Being one means digging in Mama's shirt for milkies
And using your paci less and less (hooray!)
It means sleeping a lot
To keep up with the growing
And going "nigh-nigh" on a blanket
And reading books
And bringing Mama books to read to you.
Being one means silly smiles and giggles
And love for big brother
And delight for Daddy
And kisses for Mama.
Being one couldn't be more fun.
