Homemade Puffy Paint

This morning was one of those rare days when we had nothing planned. I attempted to plan a few things, but nothing worked out, and when that happens I always know that staying home is for the best. We so rarely have a morning home and when we do, we always end up really enjoying it.

So, wondering what we could today at home, I jumped over to check out Play At Home Mom's Facebook page for some inspiration. When I saw her idea for homemade puffy paint, I was sold! So, we got dressed, I strapped on the baby, and we walked to the dollar store down the block to get our supplies.

I am notoriously bad at following recipes, so I skimmed the post and gathered that we need a lot of water, a lot of flour, and a little salt and a little baking powder (that's what makes it puffy versus a more runny kind of paint, which is also an option). We mixed our ingredients, poured it in the ketchup/mustard dispensers, added our food dye, and shook it up.

The paint did get clogged a bit, so you had to squeeze really hard to get it out...

which turned into finger painting...

...but he doesn't really like getting messy, so he asked for a paintbrush...

...but when I squirted it on the sidewalk, he didn't seem to mind getting messy...

...because then he started sliding around in it, which was hilarious because he kept falling...

Adorable!

Then we got out the hose to "wash" the sidewalk...

...and of course he got thirsty!

Only this much ended up on paper. ;)

And this little guy loved watching the whole thing!
