I've recently discovered the blog
Play At Home Mom, thanks to my aunt who showed me some of the great ideas on that site. She's got a lot of great ideas of ways to use baking soda and vinegar over there, so I was inspired and tried some of our own science experiments! I'm not sure if these exact ideas are on her page, but I skimmed, got inspired, and went with what I had on hand and what I could come up with for Burkley.
I put about a tablespoon or so of baking soda in each section of a muffin tin. I poured some vinegar in a little cup and let Burkley pour it into the muffin tin to see what would happen. We don't have any food coloring on hand, so I added some water-colors to make them look even more fun! He continued to just keep pouring in more and more and more and more...
For a few, I added the water-colors first, so Burkley could see the bubbles foam up in the various colors.
Here he is pouring the vinegar into the green tin. (Yes, I used my crappiest muffin tin for this, so sorry if it's ugliness grosses you out! haha)
 |
| Then we dumped out the solutions into a cookie sheet...and he wanted to see how high he could make it splash. |
 |
| At that point we moved outside. :) |
 |
| Splash, splash! |
 |
| All in all, a very cheap, easy, and fun science experiment! |
Looks like fun. We may have to try this :)
ReplyDeletegood action shots! And good call moving it outside ;)
ReplyDeleteLove it! We've done the baking soda & vinegar thing here too hit and it was HUGE hit. We didn't add colors though - The muffin tin is a great idea! Not only do you have different colors, but you keep everything separated, so you can do the pouring more times without it all running together. Smart!
ReplyDeleteMaybe all of the baking soda & vinegar action will clean that muffin tin? ;) My ONLY muffin tin is in similar condition, as is my best baking sheet, haha.
