Sleepy, Sleepy!

Well, we've done it.

We've reached that "major milestone" of "sleeping through night."

It was interesting, because I really didn't even notice it until after it happened for about a week.
I had become so used to soothing and nursing him in my sleep, without really even ever waking up, that it took me awhile to realize that I was no longer really soothing him at all for most of the night.
He still wakes up around 5:00 to nurse while we both sleep, and then when he wakes up anywhere between 7:00 and 8:00, he always wants to nurse first thing.

Yesterday it occurred to me that all of this sleeping through the night business started when we started taking Burkley to the chiropractor a couple of weeks ago for his ear infection. I can't say for sure if the two events are related, but it does seem interesting, does it not?

I really wish I would've taken a picture of him when he climbs up on the table at the chiro and lays face down with his little head in the hole. He just lays there, so patiently, and gets adjusted. It's hilarious because it's not like he's ever seen anyone do that before. He just hops up there like it's second nature and lays there until the doctor says it's time to get up. Yesterday he almost fell asleep getting gently adjusted.

In the past two weeks there have been a couple nights here and there were he's stirred and latched on for a minute or two without really nursing around 3:30am, but for the most part, he's sleeping until 5:00. I feel like saying, "It's been so wonderful!"would be a lie because really, like I said, I didn't really even notice it. I suppose it's nice? Well, what's nice is that he got to this point on his own, when he was ready. I do love that! What I'm loving better is that less nighttime stirring equals less nighttime wetting. He's been waking up with a dry diaper for several days now. Wonderful!

I also think all the time we've been spending outside in this gorgeous weather has probably helped him be a bit more tuckered out as well.

  1. If playing outdoors is all it takes to get them STTN, I'll have to get on that pronto! My son has been doing the same thing, stirring and nursing a lot less, but he still wakes up a few times, primarily once before I go to bed myself and then again around the time I crawl in with him. I actually don't mind those times as much as the LONG morning nursing (morning=as I'm waking up, before I'm ready to get up), which I think is a result of him dropping his middle-of-the-night feeding. But at least I'm feeling more rested. My big issue is that he will ONLY nurse back to sleep most of the time, so I can't go out with a friend for coffee for even a short visit after his bedtime.

Came across your blog through your NPN giveaway and glad I did!

  2. Janine, we have the same situation here. I can't leave once it's bedtime either. That's when he wakes up the most: the time between when he goes down and when I come to bed myself. He hasn't been sleeping as well the past couple of weeks, but I'm taking him to the chiro again tomorrow so I'm hoping that will help.

So glad you found me, welcome! :)
