In our house, we have a room that has many musical instruments in it. They are mostly Marcus's instruments, but they are all safe for Burkley to play with. He loves to venture in there and strum all of the instruments: banjolele, two ukuleles, tenor guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar. There is also a small accordian and a mandolin with no strings that he likes to play with. My French Horn is in there too, but he doesn't get to touch that quite yet. :)
He knows how to strum the stringed instruments and enjoys doing so. He also has a play music table in the living room that he plays with OFTEN that has a little drum and xylophone on it, as well as a cymbal. He also has several handheld percussion instruments including egg shakers, tambourines, and other music makers.
I'm so happy that he loves music and I hope he grows to love it and learn more about it his whole life.

I love this post, Adrienne!
ReplyDeleteI often feel that the biggest thing missing from my children's homeschool experience is MUSIC. I sing to them a lot and they are all excellent singers, but I rarely play music on the stereo to expose them to a variety of genres AND we don't actually have any real musical instruments. I would love to get a piano, but I'm afraid we'd have to get rid of the dining table to make room for it!
This post inspires me to look for more ways to bring music into the lives of my children even though I am not particularly musically inclined.
