Six Months

Wow.
He is now six months old.
I can't believe it!
He has come so far.
From being just under six weeks early, to now, a thriving, adorable, goofy, funny little baby boy.
He brings us such joy and while he still feels so new, he has been here for half of a year!
Unreal.

We have dutifully followed the WHO's recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for six months.
Thanks to my little guy only getting fed straight from my body (besides in the NICU when he was fed through a feeding tube), I have never had to pump or give him a bottle. I am so thankful that we have had a great journey, as I know it is not as easy for others. I have been blessed to get to stay home with him- and while that means I have never been away from him for more than an hour or two, and that I have to be pretty careful about what I eat, it means delayed fertility for me! Hooray!

Using LAM, a "natural postpartum infertility that occurs when a woman is not menstruating due to breastfeeding," I have done my best to follow all the recommendations and alas! It really works!

But, now he is six months old. Now what?
Well, we'll wait and see.
I've been reading this AWESOME book:
It is simply amazing. This book has so much great, valuable information. I declare it a must-read for all parents of babies!

I also have a few websites bookmarked that I plan to refer to in our process of baby-led weaning:

I am excited to start solids, but our little one is not quite ready. I think it will be a really fun adventure (not to mention, the cheapskate that I am is excited about not buying "baby" cereals and purees).

I will keep you posted on our solids journey, but for now, he is still getting all of his nutrition at the breast, and that is just fine and dandy with me! :)

"Mom! I'm on toy overload!"

  2. From one cheapskate to another, you don't have to buy purees. Make your own! Soooooo much cheaper, and it's pretty easy. Here's a great website for when that time comes: http://wholesomebabyfood.com/ Tells you how to cook them, store them, and other great tips. Have fun!
