We took a family vacation to Saugatuck, Michigan. Family vacations are always fun, and we had a great time! However, in general, I don't really recommend Saugatuck as a vacation destination, should any of you be looking for a new regular vacation spot. :) We won't be returning, though like I said, we did still have fun!
Burkley did okay in the car. He really is a terrible road-tripper. Either my husband or I had to be sitting with him in the back the whole time and by the end he was just hysterically crying. It was a five hour drive for us.
| My mom gave Burkley some new dinosaur toys to play with in the car ride. At first he was scared of them, but eventually he liked feeding them and giving them drinks. |
| The magnets on a cookie sheet were a hit! Unfortunately, my puff balls didn't stay stuck to the magnets. I should have used hot-glue instead of the just the adhesive on the back of the magnets. |
| He requested that the dinosaurs go "nigh-night" when he was scared and periodically would check to see if they had moved. |
| His first reaction to the sand was, "Hold you?" which he says when he wants to be held. |
| But soon he loved the beach! Gosh, am I really posting a family pic of us in our bathing suits!? |
| He enjoyed playing in the sand and watching the seagulls. |
| He asked everyone to read to him about a zillion times. |
| We were so thankful that our dog could come too! |
| I only remembered to take a picture of one family dinner. It's our family vacation tradition that each couple takes a night to make dinner. My sis and her hubby did their traditional pasta night! |
| Reading with Grandpa (or, as Burkley calls him, "Manka") |
| Ice cream! There was LOTS of that on this trip. |
| Beach shot! |
| Behind the house that our family rented was some woods. Burkley and I took a little hike one afternoon. |
| My husband (pictured), bro and his girlfriend, and sis and her hubs all went kayaking. As they sailed away, Burkley and I stood on the shore watching and then he asked to go on "boat please?" Now, you see, I am terrified of natural waters that I can't see the bottom of, so not only was I not going just because I had to watch Burkley, I wasn't going because I didn't want to! But his begging was so cute, I just had to give in. Plus, I really didn't think he'd actually like it once we got in, so I figured it wouldn't last long... |
| Here we go! He lasted about twenty minutes before saying "All done, boat!" He was getting frustrated because we couldn't catch up with everyone else (who hadn't even noticed that we were attempting to join them). Sorry, buddy, I'm a slow paddler! |
| The next day we went on a dune buggy ride! Here we are waiting in line. |
| Here's the whole gang at the top of the dunes. The ride was really fun, a little scary, but overall great! |
| He really loved the waves coming in and splashing him! |
| The fire pit in the backyard was only used once. It was so hot when we
were there that we didn't have much of a desire for a fire. But, I did
want some s'mores, so Marcus and Burkley built a fire. |
| Just relaxing by the fire |
| The backyard also had a trampoline, which Burkley of course loved! |
| Later in the week we went to a little Dutch village. It was quaint and corny all at once. It was actually really informative as well. We dressed Burkley up in a little dutch-boy costume. He was not thrilled. |
| Wiped out. |
| Last night on the beach. Soon, upon watching the big boys all get in the water, he dove right in even though he was in his clothes. Sigh. |
| "Nigh-night sun!" and good-bye, Michigan! |
