Birthday Boy!

When I was pregnant with Cadriel, TobyMac's song Steal My Show was popular on the Christian radio stations. I loved it. It soon became my pregnancy theme song. I wanted my birth, as well as this baby's life, to be an opportunity for God to "steal the show," so to speak. Toward the end of my pregnancy I had the idea to use this song for this baby's first birthday party.

After Cadriel was born, whenever we heard it, we'd stop what we were doing and have a family dance party to what we fondly refer to as "Cadriel's Song."

I knew I wanted to have a rock-star themed party for this babe, based on this song. It all came out so perfectly. It also turns out that this kid really loves music. He loves to dance, sing, and play with real and toy instruments.

The food was supposed to be a little "green-room"-esque-- just some sandwiches, fruit, chips, you know, a quick meal the "band" could eat between sets.

The food, cake, and cupcakes all turned out perfectly, despite a little cake crisis we had that morning. My sis was in the midst of making this awesome cake for my baby, but when she went to layer the two layers...the top one crumbled into a bajillion delicious pieces! Store-bought cake to the rescue. Heck, I was out anyway, saving the wardrobe crisis (more on that later).

I made this awesome little stage for the kidlets to jam on. Months ago, my bestie had sent me a link with "ideas" for first birthday parties and someone had made a stage similar to this. The garland was just a bunch of brightly colored shapes cut out. I got to work with my Cricut and made a ton of shapes and sewed them together. I also cut out some letters to write out some of my favorite lyrics to the songs. Turned Pandora on to the TobyMac Radio station and let the jams begin. On the stage I put a bunch of blow-up guitars, fake microphones, and various percussion toys/instruments.

The kids had a blast "jamming" on the stage throughout the party.

His month-to-month photos were displayed clipped to a piece of rope.

Brotherly love.

Burkley's shirt said "SECURITY." C's outfit was from Old Navy, but I had to run out and buy it that morning! I had made him a onesie and ordered him some rockin' legwarmers, but I ruined the onesie and the legwarmers didn't make it here on time.

All of the kids got some sort of noisemaker and a pair of rockstar sunglasses.

He of course didn't want to touch it.
But he sure dug in when we gave him a fork. ;)

It was such a fun party. Everything came together perfectly. I can't believe my baby is one, but I know the fun is just beginning with him. He's so easy-going and lovable. He loves giving hugs and kisses, dancing, playing, doing anything with his brother, and eating. We just love him so much, he's such an awesome part of our family!
